DMA355: Digital Clock Project

Our latest assignment given to us this past Tuesday was to make a digital clock that looks similar to:Digital Alarm Clock Asset

I had everything except the 12 or 24 hour clock figured out as of 2:45am this morning. But at that point I wasn’t thinking straight, and was messing things up so I stopped. Got some rest and while trying to fall asleep it dawned on me. Since I can’t run a function inside of a function (tried it) why not have a selection at frame 1 of either 12 or 24 hours. When someone clicks on the “12hrs” button it takes them to frame 5 where it shows the correct day, time and hours -12 if applicable. If you click “24hrs” it takes you to frame 10 and shows the same clock without subtracting 12 hrs, and the ampm value equals nothing. Whether the visitor clicks on “12hrs” or “24hrs” show the same two buttons at the bottom so they can switch between both clocks. Changed that this afternoon, after talking with fellow classmates at my b-day party last night I figured out how to fix things… The regular 12hr clock is the default, the 24hr clock is on frame 5 and yea, a simple gotoAndStop(5); and viola!

Spent about 20 or 30 minutes adding and troubleshooting that, got it. Then I was finished! But being picky as I am I distributed stuff to different layers and cleaned up the code. Of course I left in my quirky and sometimes angry comments in ;) . Made the background smaller and added a slight fade to it on the sides. Had lunch and watched the latest Bones episode. After seeing that smart sniper episode I created the correct html file to go along with the clock and uploaded it. Tested it on four different computers one of those being my MacBook and then finally posted it on basecamp and twitter at pretty much the same time. Not to be an ass kisser but I am first :P

Here’s the final product:

EDIT: Still a little surprised that only Andres and I have posted our clocks, granted his doesn’t work exactly as it should but it works..

DMA344: Metalocalypse 3D Animated Logo

After a couple mishaps with the previous versions I finished my Metalocalypse animation last night. Sitting in the TEL Building open lab, so much has changed since I was last here. Glad to see that the freedom toaster is still around :)

PHP Calculator

So I was bored earlier this week and tweeted that I had finished the calculator for dma322. Which is available here: http://wp.ly/im

I was going through some files to try and free up space 20 minutes ago and remembered I had attempted to make my own calculator a couple weeks ago. Opened up the file and made it work! http://joemittler.com/calc.php Give it a try :D

Update on February 12th: On Monday I came up with a fix to mostly everyones problem with using header location in the calculator script. Meta refresh! I actually walked over to Crisp and told him I had a fix that is working for everyone I’ve helped so far. So he let me add it in on his computer. After that he asked what I knew about php and other things that we will be learning in his class. I know them all, and have installed them at one time or another. Showed him my picture site that I haven’t updated in ions. He liked it and the design I used from zenphotos vast selection of themes.. When I say vast I mean few.. I wish they had themes like WordPress does.. But meh. As far as I know I’ll be getting an advanced standing in dma322 and will be the only lab monitor. Not sure if I have to wear that horrendous lab monitor shirt or not. Hoping I don’t have to. Then there’s the question of compensation, not sure what’s happening with that either.. All will be revealed Monday!

DMA344: Metalocalypse 3D Logo Assignment

For 3D Class we had to take a 2D logo and make it 3D. I originally wanted to do the Deadmau5 logo but it was around 5 or so shapes and was too easy. So I kept searching and eventually came across the Metalocalypse Logo. Sent it to the prof. Gavin and got the go ahead. Worked on it over a span of a week and just last night started adding the bevels and textures.
Since it was a snow day today, I, after shoveling snow tackled the words “Metalocalypse” that go above the logo. That took about an hour or so to get perfect. Had to redo the M as it wouldn’t fill properly even after welding everything twice..

Then about two hours ago I was reading over the pdf to make sure I got everything and forgot that the letters should use an extrude instead of a bevel.. Changed them all to extrude and it looks better. Solved a problem I had too.. You’ll notice it in the gallery below. Even if you don’t, I pointed it out.

Off to shave and then it’s straight to bed. Have to be up at 6:20am for work..

DMA244: HD Video Notes

For anyone who wants them here’s a link to my notes on the hd cameras http://wp.ly/hR. It’s a google doc, going to try it this semester. So far I’m liking it, I have everything in folders and I can access it from anywhere that has an internet connection :)
